Which Spinner Decoy is Best for Me?

Posted by Lucky Duck Team on Aug 31st 2021

Fall is quickly approaching which means it is time to think about chasing waterfowl (let’s be honest, do we ever stop thinking about it). It’s no secret that waterfowl hunters are gear junkies and when it comes to a good spread, you can bet there’s at least one spinner in it.

The next question is, which spinner decoy is best for you? There are a lot of options: rechargeable battery, AA batteries, magnetic wings, extra-large wings, remote capable, etc. We are going to break down our top four spinning wing decoys and the features of each. This is not a sales pitch to sell our most expensive decoy, we are laying out the options from most expensive/advanced to entry-level and budget friendly. Based on the features you should be able to choose the best spinner for you.

Let’s start at the top with the Lucky Waterproof HDi, which is the only fully waterproof spinner on the market. This is our most advanced decoy that retails at $219.99 and includes a remote kit and gear bag. Featuring the same HD body style that you’ve come to expect from Lucky Duck but contains a newly designed module system that has a completely sealed battery box. On the inside of the module, you’ll find the 7.4 lithium-ion battery and remote receiver, while the external has a remote program button, external charging, and on/off button. The Waterproof HDi is also the only spinner to run on a lithium-ion battery which means it can withstand any weather and provide more consistent power. Lastly, this spinner includes a 6 piece 7’ stake which is the longest pole of any spinners we offer.

Next up, we have the Super Lucky HD which retails for $149.99. We took the HD body style and integrated the time proven Super Lucky design with heavy duty motor. The major difference between this decoy and the Lucky HD is the wing size. The Super Lucky has extra-large magnetic wings that create a larger flash in the spread and can be seen from further distances. Complete with a 6-volt lead acid battery, chest mount with bungee, and 3 piece 42” stake. HD remote kit can be purchased separately.

Drum roll please… for our top selling decoy and the spinner that changed it all, the Lucky HD. Back in 2015 we rebranded to Lucky Duck Decoys™ and needed to make an impact, so we introduced a spinner with a chest mount and front module. Say goodbye to the days of opening a decoy from the back and dealing with loose wires. Constructed with a specialty blend of plastic that can absorb punishment from the toughest waterfowlers, a realistic and detailed carving, and magnetic wings with lifelike print. The Lucky HD will run 18+ hours off a 6-volt lead acid battery, has an external charging port, and includes a 3 piece 42” stake. Also, remote capable and the remote kit can be purchased separately.

Last but not least we have our Junior II that retails for $79.99. If you are looking for a less expensive spinner that will still get the job done, then the Junior II (or Junior II 6V) is your go-to. This decoy will run 12-14+ hours on 4 AA batteries and includes a 3 piece 42” stake. Same chest mount with bungee but has magnetic corrugated wings instead of the plastic wings with lifelike print. We also offer a 6-volt option for $89.99 if you prefer a rechargeable battery. Both Juniors are HD remote capable but sold separately.

In Conclusion:

Spinners can vary greatly in price depending on what the features are and what additional accessories are included. If you are in the market for a new spinner decoy, be sure to look at what type of battery is included, what type of wings it has, and if a remote is included or not. We build our line-up based on your needs and we strive to provide the perfect option no matter what your budget is.
