Trip Planning

When planning a waterfowl hunting trip, there is no shortage of things to remember. From the big to the little, there is no doubt that something will be forgotten. But there are some things that are probably more overlooked than most. On any big waterfowl trip, you are going to be pulling a trailer, whether it be a boat or an enclosed trailer full of decoys.

When planning your trip, don’t forget the small details or it could end up being a major hassle when something goes wrong. When using a trailer, it’s nice to get everything ready a couple days in advance so you’re not rushed. Make sure you have a spare tire for your trailer and check the air pressure before you leave. The last thing you want to have to do is leave your trailer full of Lucky Duck decoys on the side of the road overnight because you don’t have a spare.

I also like to keep some wire connectors, stripping pliers, and a crimper in case you catch a wire on something and break it. A good jack and four way/breaker bar are also a necessity for trips. I always throw in my cordless impact to make changing a tire a lot faster and easier, but I strongly recommend keeping the four way/breaker bar as a backup.

Hunting trips are a great time, and if you can be prepared for anything that can go wrong it makes it a lot more enjoyable and stress free. We always hope for a smooth trip with no breakdowns or troubles, but to be ready if something should happen, take it as a little bump in the road instead of major downtime.
